Tolbos Patensie

How Patensie could restore your family balance.

I bet many individuals in your family tend to spend more time staring at their tablet & smartphone screens than they do anything else. Technology is a wonderful thing, it has helped humanity in ways our ancestors could never even imagine, however something unforeseen started happening with today’s generation Z. Generation Z, for those who aren’t familiar with the term, is the first generation that was born in the mid 90s to early 2000s and grew up “online”.

With modern smartphones, Social Media, Whatsapp, Messenger, Skype, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube and lets not forget the good old email and a phone call, we have more ways to connect with each other than ever before. Despite the abundant choice of ways to communicate, fate is not without a sense of irony –  we are more lonely and disconnected than ever before.

So what are parents to do in order to restore the balance back to a “packed-car-with-kids-squabbling-in-the-back-dad-threatening-to-stop-said-car-if-they- don’t-stop-harassing-each-other-but-his-arm-is-on-my-side-of-the-seat” type balance? There is just one recommendation…

Mini Family Road Trip!

Don’t even try to use packing as an excuse, you do not need to pack much for this little journey through life, after all  you will only be an hour or two away from home (if traveling from PE or surrounds). There is one rule. NO tablets or phones until you are back home.

On this little trip, everyone will be looking out the window at the gorgeous valleys and citrus plantations on the way to the quaint farming community that is Patensie. Some may even partake in speaking with each other and pointing out interesting sights – imagine that! If in season, stop off at Hankey and pick your own strawberries, show the kids the giant sundial and go and visit the Kouga dam. Stop for lunch right here at Tolbos where we cater for both young and old! Gifts, delicious food and friendly service – we’ve got you covered.

Sure, when the blood sugar is low you may feel like throwing dropping your kids off next to the side of the road, however remember one thing…

When it comes to spending time together as family, kids won’t remember their best day of playing Angry Birds nor their best day of watching television.
